Yoga as Therapy
Increase mobility & encourage healingYoga can help.
Learn to synchronize your mind, body and breath to reduce risk of injury and sustain healthy movement for life.
Stress, injury and illness can limit our daily lives. Basic tasks like walking to the car, sitting at work, or lifting that heavy bag of groceries —even breathing—can become difficult and sometimes painful. These physical limitations can have a negative impact on our emotions, energy and attitude.
I am a certified Holistic Yoga Therapist™, E-RYT 500, Accessible Yoga Teacher and owner of a private yoga studio in Vancouver, WA. During your yoga class I will collaborate with you to identify what has led you to feel this way and discover how to help you feel more at ease. We will review your daily movement patterns to learn how to increase your mobility, build strength, enhance flexibility and promote balance.

Holistic Yoga Therapy
I want to inspire you to move and feel better in your own body.
I use a holistic approach to see and treat you as a whole person – physically, mentally and emotionally – with the goal of empowering your innate ability to self-heal. We are so much more than our injuries, our limitations, our pain. I want to help you find the cause, and not just treat your symptoms.
There’s a reason that both ancient wisdom and current research approach the human body holistically as a union of mind, body and breath. All three are vitally important, and I approach each during a private yoga class:

Mind
It can be easy to set aside thoughts of how we feel. We rush from one thing to the next, until finally something nags at us loudly enough that we can’t help but turn all of our attention to it.
Pain, fatigue, stress, illness or injury can set in and take over our thoughts, turning them negative. By bringing awareness to what IS working, we can set the foundation to empower your healing process.

Body
Compensations (such as a tucked position of the pelvis) can make it uncomfortable to walk, sit, stand and pick things up. These issues can develop from stress, injury, illness or just daily life.
During your private yoga class, we identify your compensations, and learn how to re-pattern them to enhance your mobility, build strength, and increase balance and flexibility.

Breath
Breath is the genesis of movement, beginning at the deepest level of our beings. When we develop dysfunctional breathing patterns, our body’s ability to move and to heal becomes limited.
Initiating a practice of mindful breathing can reconnect us with our very essence, enable us to reduce stress, enhance healing and return to a more balanced, well-connected self.
Yoga for Pain Relief
As a certified Holistic Yoga Therapist, my approach during your private yoga class is to zoom out and see you as a whole person – body, mind and spirit – before we zoom in.
Pain is highly subjective and can be emotional and/or physical. What I consider painful, you may not. Pain may be something you are experiencing due to a current injury, or perhaps chronic pain has developed from a surgery or injury you had long ago. Sometimes, chronic pain can correspond to feelings of anxiety and depression.
During your private yoga class, we’ll learn not only what isn’t working in your body and causing you pain, but what IS working. Then we will start to explore new ways of moving, feeling and breathing.
