Frequently Asked Questions

I’m not flexible. Can I do this?

Absolutely. Every session is tailored specifically to meet you where you are today. You do not need to be flexible – this is something we can work on together. Please also keep in mind that I define flexibility as being able to perform daily functions such as getting to the floor and back up again with ease and picking your kid’s toys up off the ground without injury.

Do I need to be fit to do yoga?

I am passionate about making Yoga accessible to everyone, so no, you do not need to be fit or athletic to do yoga. I customize every class specifically to your needs and goals, and offer a wide variety of styles to match. I also have a lovely light-filled studio where it’s just you practicing with me guiding, so you can feel at ease and not self-conscious about others watching.

Does insurance cover yoga?

Insurance coverage ranges widely and HSAs/FSAs may help cover the cost of yoga therapy and private yoga classes. More and more research studies are being conducted about the many benefits of yoga so coverage is changing all the time. I would recommend reaching out to your provider to get more information.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothing you can move around in. Jeans aren’t ideal, or anything that’s too bulky. No dresses or skirts. Typical gym attire is great.

What should I bring to my private yoga class?

Just yourself and a water bottle. If this is your first private yoga class, please complete the intake assessment and email it to me at least 24 hours prior to your appointment.

Do I need to bring a yoga mat?

I have clean yoga mats and everything else we may need for your yoga class.

What is Holistic Yoga Therapy?

Holistic Yoga Therapy™ teaches mindful breath and movement to promote greater healing through physical, mental and emotional awareness. This increase in awareness helps us reconnect with ourselves to reduce risk of injury and sustain healthy movement for life.

What is the difference between a yoga class and a private Holistic Yoga Therapy class?

Every body is unique, just like a snowflake. In a group yoga class, the teacher is unable to address individual body types, compensations, injuries or ailments. Instead, group yoga classes are generalized so hopefully “most” people can do the poses. Modifications can be suggested but it is up to individual to know and understand their own body to determine what is best. In a holistic yoga therapy class I work with you in a one-on-one setting and customize our work together specifically to you and your needs. During our first meeting, an in-depth assessment will be done including the initial intake you fill out before-hand. This information guides your session(s) and focuses specifically on you and your goals – there is no predetermined plan.

Yoga International posted an excellent article by Gary Kraftsaw, renowned yoga therapist on the difference:

I’m sensitive to fragrances. Do you use perfumes, incense, diffusers, oils, candles or sage in your space?

The entire building is fragrance-free for this very reason.

What types of payment do you accept?

Cash, check and major credit cards.
